READING: 6-8 AGE GROUP

Whether you like history or not, it doesn’t matter for the History Mystery Series by Natasha Sharma. As long as you like to laugh, these books are worth every rupee and second you spend on them. The series has five brilliant books- Akbar and The Tricky Traitor; Ashoka and the Muddled Messages; Raja Raja and the Swapped Sacks; Razia and the Pesky Presents and Shah Jahan and the Ruby Robber.
Natasha Sharma in the history mystery series takes history to a different level. She uses historical facts that can otherwise boring to weave funny stories that will transport you back in time. Her descriptions are vivid yet easy enough for children in 6+ age group who are proficient in reading to understand and enjoy. At the end of all these books there is a section that points out interesting but less known facts that were facts and parts of the story that are fiction but absolute must to make the books a fascinating read.
In particular, I loved these books for the following reasons:
- The quirky cover and illustrations inside along with offbeat titles definitely catch attention.
- The length of the book itself is not too long considering that children of 6-8 category may not want to be reading for a really long time.
- The plot is simply presented and enables the reader to think about who is likely to be the culprit in the mystery.
- Above all these books present history in a completely different light. It does not feel like history class but someone telling a gripping story from the past.
