MADHOOMITHA, SWEET SIN DELICACIES

17 year old Madhoomitha Rajamanickam was thrilled to be done with her board exams! All she wanted to do was relax and enjoy her well-deserved summer vacations. Little did she know that things were going to take an exciting turn!

Madhoo still remembers the day as if it were yesterday. She was taken by surprise when a friend’s mother, knowing her passion for baking, asked her if she could place an order for chocolate chip cookies. It was an offer she could not refuse! Madhoo was flattered, nervous and thrilled at the same time! She, of course, went on to bake the most delicious batch and life has not been the same since then. With her first stint as an entrepreneur a success and with the encouragement from her family and friends, Madhoo went on to set up Sweet Sin Delicacies.

Now 19, Madhoo has been juggling the life of a student (at National Institute of Fashion Technology) and a young business woman for the last two years. Keen to know if one role affects the other, I asked Madhoo to share how she manages to do well at college and as a professional baker. She admitted that her days are very busy, she wakes up early to plan her orders and prepares the basics, attends a full day of college, comes back at 7 PM, takes a short break and starts baking. As the cakes cool down, Madhoo has dinner and finishes up her college assignments. Then finally,  gets down to frosting, decorating and prepping the cakes for delivery the next day.

In spite of such a hectic life, Madhoo feels starting early was the best decision ever. And while being young has its perks, some people were a bit apprehensive about whether she could manage a business and were very vocal about whether she would ever make a success of it. But Madhoo stayed focused and took inspiration from her parents, grandparents and role model, Yolanda Gampp and is proud that she has managed to bake a 7 kg cake for a birthday party, made 65 return gift boxes with cupcakes, dessert jars, chocolates and brownies and proudly adds, “I did all this, just a week before my semester exams!”.

We are proud of young girls like Madhoo who are ambitious and driven and equally proud of all the others who are content focusing on one thing at a time. At the end of the day, do what makes you happy and remember to seek a healthy balance of your heart and mind!
