ROLL OUT THE MAT!
“Finding moments of clarity in this chaos is what inspires me to do what I do”, says Sanjana Jain, a Yoga teacher in Nikaya Yoga, Bangalore.
Sanjana commenced her career as an Assistant Ad Manager for Elle and Elle Décor. She loved her job and admired her boss, who is also her mentor. Given how taxing sales jobs can get, Sanjana would look forward to getting home, rolling out the mat and practicing yoga. Wanting to explore it one level deeper, she signed up for a teachers training course and it was during one of the practice sessions that Sanjana realized that – this was it. After a lot of introspection and doubt – a two week stint immersing herself into the practice gave her the clear direction she was seeking. Sanjana quit her job and started her journey as a full time teacher of this 5000-year-old Indian body of knowledge.
Sanjana has only just begun her journey, and she describes her days as exciting, frustrating and exhilarating. Some days are filled with doubt and some others are filled with moments of clarity. What is important is that Sanjana is where she wants to be, doing what she loves to do and feeling a deep sense of satisfaction. She focuses on enjoying the journey and does not get caught up trying to figure out her destination.
Through Sanjana’s story, I hope to highlight one essential learning – all of us need not necessarily start out knowing what we want out of life, but take the time to introspect and you will find your answers…sometimes all it takes is a simple first step in the right direction, for Sanjana it was to roll out the mat!
